A New Voice for a Multilingual Continent
In today’s fast-changing world, ARTE Europe Weekly offers something unique — a truly European view of the news.
This digital-only weekly magazine is presented in four main languages: French, German, English, and Spanish.
In addition, it includes subtitles in six more languages — Italian, Polish, Greek, Hungarian, Latvian, and Romanian.
As a result, ARTE reaches millions of viewers across Europe, regardless of the language they speak.
News From a European Lens
Every Friday, a new edition appears on arte.tv and ARTE’s official YouTube channels.
The show focuses on the most important European and global issues. It covers stories like the war in Ukraine, farming in Europe, and public health.
However, ARTE Europe Weekly goes beyond headlines. It offers context and perspective, helping viewers understand why these stories matter across borders.
Instead of following national narratives, it looks at how one event connects different European countries.
Therefore, each episode brings a more complete picture of Europe’s shared challenges and achievements.
In Partnership With Europe’s Leading Media
To reach more people, ARTE works with several respected news organisations.
The magazine is featured on digital platforms of El País (Spain), Le Soir (Belgium), Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland), Internazionale (Italy), IR (Latvia), Kathimerini (Greece), Telex (Hungary), and BIRN (Balkans and Romania).
Moreover, each outlet publishes the magazine in its own language.
This collaboration ensures that ARTE’s European journalism is accessible and relevant to readers across the continent.
Made for the Digital Age
Since 2024, ARTE has also created a social media version of the programme.
It uses the same design and visuals but in a shorter, two-minute format.
These clips are perfect for mobile users who want fast, clear updates on key European topics.
In addition, they help younger audiences connect with European issues in a modern and engaging way.
Meet the Presenters
English: Catherine Bennet and Jad Salfiti
German: Anja Maiwald and Robert Handrack
French: Anne-Charlotte Waryn and Anne-Lyse Thomine
Spanish: Minerva Burroni and Miguel Casanova
Each presenter brings a personal touch, combining professional insight with the local flavour of their regions.
As a result, the magazine reflects the diversity and depth of Europe’s many voices.
A Project Powered by European Collaboration
Since 2015, ARTE has expanded its multilingual programming with the European Union’s support.
ARTE Europe Weekly is part of the EU-funded “European Media Hubs” initiative under the EMOVE project.
The goal is simple: to inform European citizens through independent, balanced, and multilingual journalism.
The project has two main parts:
- European News Strand – producing ARTE Europe Weekly and short social media formats with eight partner outlets.
- European Stories Strand – creating 30-minute documentaries that show real-life stories and cultural diversity across Europe.
Therefore, ARTE is helping build a media space where every European voice matters.
Europe, In All Its Voices
With its multilingual team, trusted partnerships, and fresh storytelling, ARTE Europe Weekly is more than a news magazine.
It is a bridge between cultures, ideas, and people.
Through its content, Europe can see itself — not as separate nations, but as a connected community.
