French Skier Cyprien Sarrazin Recovering from Head Injury, Unsure About Returning to Competitive Racing

France’s Cyprien Sarrazin speeds down the course during the men’s World Cup downhill race in Val Gardena, Italy

French skier Cyprien Sarrazin is making significant progress in his recovery after suffering a head injury in December, but his future in competitive skiing remains uncertain. Sarrazin underwent surgery to treat bleeding near his brain following a crash while preparing for the World Cup downhill race in Bormio, Italy.

Now, two months after the incident, Sarrazin spoke to L’Équipe about his recovery, stating that it is progressing faster than expected. “It’s going really well,” he said. “I’ve made rapid improvements, and I’m grateful to have avoided more serious consequences. I’m focused on the positives.”

The 30-year-old skier, who had his most successful World Cup season last year with four wins, continues to experience some double vision, particularly when looking down. However, he has resumed physical training and feels himself getting back in shape.

Although Sarrazin is eager to return to skiing, he remains unsure about resuming his career as a professional racer. “I still feel the passion for the sport,” he said. “But after everything I’ve gone through, I want to take my time before making any final decisions. I’m not ruling out a return, but I need to evaluate my recovery first.”

Sarrazin’s future in competitive skiing is still up in the air, but he remains hopeful and motivated as he continues his recovery journey.
